Who woulda thought that I would have said, “Meh, it’s only 13 miles. No big deal.” Not me, that’s for sure. But….it was easy peasy lemon squeezy. We only stopped once to get another jolt of coffee around 10. Well, we stopped briefly at noon to grab a sello (stamp) for our pilgrim passport. It’s recommended you get two a day at this point. But, we walked right through until about 1:15, when we arrived at our hostel. Right before the rain hit.
We’ve had another disappointing lunch. 😒 And I have opted to stay at the hostel instead of going out. I can’t do another crappy meal out. On the way back from lunch, we walked by the grocery store and I got a premixed salad. We’ve been marveling at the amount of food that Bill can pack away. AND he’s lost weight. So, Bill and Bruce will be going out to dinner. I just didn’t want to go out in the rain.
Today we saw another pretty sunrise. More cows. A few familiar faces in the pilgrims, but no Jacque today. We did see a really cool bar that had saved all their beer bottles for decoration. Some pretty flowers. And some nice country roads. I’ve posted pictures of some of the country houses. It’s really interesting to see some of these fairly humble homes with collapsed walls and roofs that need to be repaired, and a really nice car parked in front. Like a Mercedes, BMW, or Range Rover. In the video montage, I’ve included an example of a monument dedicated to a pilgrim who died while walking the trail. These memorials are dotted all over, and we always stop to take a moment to read the plaque and say a blessing. Some of the fallen pilgrims are in their 70’s, some are really rather young, like in their 50’s or even younger.
We are looking forward to finishing tomorrow. We will have to walk in the rain, but we have the gear to use. I’m mentally going over the stuff I’m going to donate at the end of the trip. I’m also planning to do a couple of supplemental posts about what I recommend to take, what was essential, and stuff I was told to take and never used, and how to do the Camino at my age. 😜
