A bit of a shorter day today that we will make longer by a kilometer, by taking the scenic route along the river, which is really a stream, just so we don’t have to walk along the highway the whole time. It was a nice path thru the trees.
We had a nice breakfast with a torta (egg and potato) with a croissant and some coffee. The people in these towns have been much more friendly and happy to see the pilgrims. They all talk about how slow it has been and they are happy for the business. We are starting to see more and more pilgrims.
We stopped at a church built by to honor the Virgin Mary by the Knights Templar who were charged with protecting the pilgrims along the way. Another beautiful church. Candles were lit and prayers went out to those whom we are thinking of.
The rest of the journey was spent walking along the highway. Pretty boring. I remembered that my Air Pods have a noice cancellation feature, and it made the traffic noise magically go away.
We got checked into our hostel which is connected to a restaurant. Sandra, the young lady who checked us in was friendly and very efficient. She was also our server for lunch. Full restaurant with two servers. They did a fantastic job. I had vegetable cream soup that tasted almost like a bisque, and grilled salmon with a salad and some potatoes. Best meal I’ve had in awhile.
They have this odd thing here in Spain. If you have a double bed, the pillow is GIANT. I can’t imagine trying to share this pillow. Not sure how that whole thing works.
Tomorrow the weather starts to turn. Gusts of wind with some rain showers. Glad it’ll be a short day.
