We have a very long day today. 19 miles. We are also finally starting to see the mountains in the distance. Our ending spot in Astorga is just over the beginning of the foothills.
We have emptied our packs as much as we can. Today will be warm, and sunny, so we don’t need to carry rain gear or extra clothing. Just water, first aid, and snacks. Bill used my extra duffle bag to put most of his stuff in, so his backpack was pretty empty. Bruce checked his backpack and used my smallest backpack to carry his stuff. We all commented on how nice it was to not carry a whole lot, and we set out at a much brisker pace.
We saw lots of fun things today. At our coffee stop, the back yard was filled will all sorts of birds. We walked across a very long stone bridge, we watched a Shepard move his flock of sheep with a couple of smiley puppies to help, and we had a brief stop at a hippie camping area.
It was a nice walk. But, dang, my feet are killing me. We didn’t get in until 4:30, so we only had a brief rest before we ate dinner. I’m sure I’ll sleep well tonight.
