What a glorious night of sleep! After dinner our fabulous salads, I stumbled upstairs to crawl into bed and was out before 8pm. We didn’t start this morning until 8:40, so after waking at 6am I took my time packing and just enjoying the comfortable room. The only issue was that I had no cell service or internet.
Today is my 25th wedding anniversary. I wanted to at least text my husband to tell him how lucky I was to marry him before I had a chance to call him later. But, alas, that would have to wait until we set out.
Today is only 10 miles, so we had a nice start in the daylight and then a horrible walk along the highway with tons of semis barreling down the road. We eventually veered of enough to only hear it faintly in the background for awhile until we intersected it again.
Our landscape had changed today, though. More hills, and green bean fields or the biggest field of sunflowers we had ever seen. We also got trees! Back to some pine trees and a short forest trail over a wooden bridge and a babbling brook. Nice change of pace, that’s for sure.
Tonight we have checked into a 3* hotel, and Bill and Bruce get their own bedrooms. And what luck! Their restaurant is open for both dinner (at an agreeable hour – 7pm) and for breakfast in the morning.
It seems that’s its a super popular place to stop. We ran into Kate (I now know its Catie), and Mike who joined us for a glass of wine. I had rooibos since my heartburn still hasn’t gone away. And Mike pulled out a backgammon board. He was just learning, so I showed him how to beat me twice and taught him all the dirty moves my husband uses – all legit – to beat me. Once I had finally won a game, we stopped and a guy from Bulgaria came over to play Mike.
After that we went to dinner and then bed. Again, I was out by 8:30.
